Valerie lives in Devon but is a frequent visitor to St Ives, her husband’s home town. She enjoys exploring different media, in particular watercolours and acrylics. Valerie’s approach allows the watercolours to develop organically, leaving space for the pigments to react with each other, the water and the paper. A spontaneous, lively start lends energy to the painting. When using acrylics, Valerie enjoys the possibilities that the medium allows to create layers, depth and textures. She is primarily motivated by colour exploration, so this is often the starting point of a painting. Valerie’s inspiration derives from nature, whether animals or the colours of the landscape, be it Devonshire moorlands or Cornish coasts.
